Igen means dignity — the quiet authority of a sword that needs no introduction. From the dragon coiling in gold along its scabbard to the depth of its folded grain, this hand-forged Damascus katana was built to command a room and to perform in the hand. It is a master piece in the literal sense: shaped, hardened and finished by hand at every stage.

Forging & Steel

The blade is hand-forged Damascus steel, then fully hand-polished to draw the wavy pattern up out of the metal and bring the edge to a clean cutting line. Folding is what gives Damascus its character — layer upon layer welded and drawn out until the grain flows like water down the blade. Hand polishing is slower and far more demanding than machine work, and it is what separates a master piece from a production sword, coaxing depth and clarity from the steel that no buffing wheel can match. Suited to both cutting and display, the Igen carries fittings to match: a tsuba fusing copper and brass with silver plating and gilding, where the dragon stands for strength and wisdom; a richly carved saya with dragon-shaped gilding and detailed kashira; and a shagreen tsuka paired with quality Japanese silk for the sageo. Every element is finished to the standard the name promises.

Is it battle-ready?

Yes. Hand-forged and hand-polished, the Igen is sharpened for real cutting yet finished to a standard that makes it equally a display piece. See more master blades in the katana collection, or compare it with the Densetsu and the Ha.
